Post Natal Illness ranges in degree and severity from the very common “baby blues” to the quite rare puerperal psychosis. Onset of illness usually comes within the first 4-6 weeks of childbirth but may take up to 6 months to develop fully.
Symptoms vary between individuals but include :- inability to cope, feelings of inadequacy, loss of appetite, sleep difficulties (beyond normal demands of a new baby), anxiety, irritability, hostility towards your partner, unexplained tearfulness and perhaps the inability to feel warmth towards or bond with your baby.
